The seminar was led by Egil Tjåland, leader for NTNU's programme for Computational Science and Visualization. A number of presentations were given on applications for which the new machine will be used. These included applications in structural engineering, e.g., car crash simulations, presented by Tore Børvik from SIMLab at NTNU, and applications in medical ultrasound imaging presented by Halvard Kaupang from the Department for Circulation and Imaging. Ian Green, World-Wide HPC Sales Executive from IBM gave a glimpse of technologies that will emerge in the HPC arena in the coming years. Some aspects of the operational weather forecasting simulations for which njord will be used were highlighted by Roar Skålin from the Meteorological Institute. The seminar was attended by 90 people.
