2007-06-18: University of Bergen buys 50 Teraflop Cray XT4 supercomputerThe University of Bergen and Cray Inc. announced today that the university will buy one of Europe's largest supercomputers. The machine will have a peak performance of more than 50 Teraflops in the fall of 2007. The machine will be installed at the Bergen Center for Computational Science and will be used for research within marine sciences, biology, chemistry, physics, geosciences, and applied mathematics. The facility will boost the computational capacity that is available to Norwegian research. The facility will be made available to all groups involved in education and research at Norwegian universities and colleges through the Notur project. The machine is financed by the University of Bergen, UNIFOB AS, the Research Council of Norway (through UNINETT Sigma), and the Institute for Marine Research (IMR). A press release from the University on Bergen is available here (in Norwegian). |
